Barcelona winger Ez Abde has a major decision to make with regard to his future in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Moroccan-Spanish winger is attracting serious interest from Osasuna and Real Betis as per Diario de Navarro (h/t SPORT).
Signed from Hercules CF last summer, the 20-year-old linked with the B team in the early parts of the campaign before being called up to the first team towards the end of 2021, due to injuries to senior attackers.
Abde made the most of his chances, making a big impression on manager Xavi Hernandez with his exciting displays on the flanks.
However, the signings of Ferran Torres, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traore coupled with the return to fitness of Ousmane Dembele meant that Abde had to return to the B team setup.
In all, the winger finished the season with three goals and seven assists from 21 appearances in the RFEF First Division, while he scored one goal for the first team in 11 matches.
Abde can no longer stay a part of the B team but a role in the senior setup is hard to come by as Dembele could still end up staying. Even if the Frenchman departs, Barça have Raphinha and Angel Di Maria lined up as alternatives, complicating Abde’s situation.
So, a summer exit could be on the cards and Osasuna are closely monitoring his situation with an intention of signing the 20-year-old. However, they could face serious competition from Real Betis, who might have a better shot at meeting Abde’s wages in the summer.
The young forward’s future hinges on Dembele’s decision on his contract and Barça’s pursuit of a new winger. If the Catalans do not bring in a new wide player, there is every chance Abde could become a part of Xavi’s plans for next season.
